[00:00:00] Speaker A: So we're going to do more discussion on Adam or Michael that we learned his name was from our last discussion. And I thought this was pretty cool, that the name Michael means who is like God, like question, who is like God? And so today in our discussion, we're going to discuss more about Adam and the possibility of who is like God and how he connects to God. Welcome to Jesus Christ in Scripture. Finding Christ on Every page. I'm Tammy usalak Hall with Dr. Donald W. Perry and Don. Hit it. What did we learn about Michael and the Archangel?
[00:00:27] Speaker B: So what we're going to do today is look at four texts that shows that the archangel Michael defeats the adversary. These texts have eternal ramifications. Michael the archangel is defeated or will defeat the adversary, showing the power of the Lamb. So it's not Michael's power by himself. It's the power of Jesus Christ and the atonement. So the power comes from Jesus. I want to make sure everyone knows that.
[00:00:55] Speaker A: Here we go. The war in heaven. This is found in the book of Revelation. And there was a war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. And the dragon fought and his angels. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent called the devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world. He was cast out into the earth. And his angels were cast out with him. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.
[00:01:18] Speaker B: Michael and his angels overcame Satan. It's very clear. By the blood of the Lamb, the Lamb's blood. The atonement works backward in time and forward in time. It's infinite.
And by the word of their testimony. And this helps us to see how powerful our testimonies are. Your testimony, my testimony, everyone's testimony is very powerful.
[00:01:40] Speaker A: And why we need testimonies, why it's so important to curate that. Yes, that's what I love about primary, is that at a young age we're asking these cute little kids to stand up and talk to all of their peers about Jesus Christ, to just start developing their sweet little testimonies. But you can see the power of the word. Wow, that is awesome. What it can defeat.
[00:01:58] Speaker B: Speaking of little children, a couple months ago in my home ward during testimony meeting, as soon as the person conducting the meetings invited people to come up to bear their testimony, this little girl, I'm guessing she's 8 or 9 years old, ran up the aisle. She wasn't trying to be first, she was just anxious. She ran physically and then ran up to the pulpit and bore her Testimony. It was so cute, Don, just so.
[00:02:25] Speaker A: You know, that was me. Every Sunday I used to say to my mom or dad, is it fast Sunday or slow Sunday?
[00:02:30] Speaker B: Oh, funny.
[00:02:31] Speaker A: I remember they laughed at me one time and they said, what do you mean? I go, well, fast Sunday is when I get to bear my testimony and slow Sundays when I don't. So I learned at a very young age. First of all, you don't get to get up each week.
[00:02:40] Speaker B: Passage 2 is found in Jude. Yet Michael the Archangel, when contending with the devil, he disputed about the body of Moses. Durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, the Lord rebuke thee. So I'm going to unravel a couple things. We don't know what this dispute's about. I don't know anyway. But Michael didn't bring a railing accusation against Satan. Michael called upon the name. So the Lord's always central. He's the central.
He's all powerful. The Lord rebuke thee. It's not I rebuke you or may you be rebuked. The Lord rebuke you.
[00:03:18] Speaker A: Reminds me of the story in Moses 1 where, where he called upon the name of the Lord and that's how he was able to rebuke Satan. That's very beautiful.
[00:03:24] Speaker B: Here's number three.
[00:03:25] Speaker A: The banks of the Susquehanna. And again, what do we hear? The voice of Michael on the banks of the Susquehanna, detecting the devil when he appeared as an angel of light.
[00:03:34] Speaker B: Now, before we get to number four, I'm going to share a story told by President Wilford Woodruff.
And the story shows that not only Michael fight against Satan and evil, but his angels also have power to do so. This took place in London and Elder Wilford Woodruff was an apostle and he was serving with Elder George a Smith. It took place in October 1840.
We set up one night till about 11 o' clock talking about the Gospel of Christ. Then we went to bed. The room in which we slept was small. There was about three and a half feet between our cots. Those spirits. He's speaking of evil spirits. Those spirits were gathered together in that room and sought to destroy us. They fell upon us with the determination to take our lives. The distress, the suffering and the horror that rest upon me I never experienced before nor since. Well, in this condition a spirit, a good spirit, said to me, pray to the Lord. I prayed to the Lord in the name of Jesus Christ to preserve our lives. While I was praying, the door opened and three messengers entered. And the room was filled with light equal to the blazing of the sun at midday. There's more, but I just picture the door opening. Three of God's angels come in and they fill the whole space. And remember, it's at night, it's after 11 o'. Clock.
And now the room is filled with light equal to the blazing the sun at midday, at noon, those messengers were all dressed in robes of immortal beings. Now that's a little clue here. An important thing. Who they were, I do not know.
They laid their hands upon me and my companion and rebuked those evil powers and we were saved. From that hour to this day, not only our lives were saved, but those powers were rebuked by the angels of God so that no elder since has been tormented with them in London. End of quote. So the reason I brought this up, not only the archangel is fighting against evil, but God's angels are also have the power to subdue evil.
[00:05:57] Speaker A: Well, and when you read that story, so we've talked about Michael and we've talked about a prophet.
Can us, can we have the same power by calling upon the Lord?
[00:06:05] Speaker B: Absolutely, positively.
[00:06:08] Speaker A: Because sometimes in the scriptures when we read stories about prophets and apostles who are doing amazing things, we think, wait, but you probably have to be perfect or anything like that. And I think the beautiful message of this is, is that all of us, because of our testimony in Jesus Christ can lean into. And it doesn't even have to be. You're probably like, my testimony is not that great. It doesn't matter. There's no like gauge of a testimony. It's just to call on his name, you know, he lives. And that's the beauty of that first scripture you shared with us. Because of the blood of the Lamb and our testimony, we can have power over the influence of the evil one. So very cool.
[00:06:38] Speaker B: Now we have one more, one more scripture about the archangel. And this is going to take place in the future.
[00:06:44] Speaker A: All right?
[00:06:45] Speaker B: And Michael, the seventh angel, even the archangel, shall gather together his armies, even the host of heaven, and the devil shall gather together his armies, even the hosts of hell, and shall come up to battle against Michael and his armies. And then cometh the battle of the great God. And the devil and his armies shall be cast away into their own place that they shall not have power over the saints anymore at all. For Michael shall fight their battles. See, he's done this throughout the history of our temporal existence and shall overcome him who seeketh the throne of him who sit up upon the throne, even the Lamb. This is the glory of God and the sanctified and they shall not anymore see death.
[00:07:29] Speaker A: That is going to be a glorious moment. Wow. Dawn, thank you for teaching us this, for walking us through this about Adam. It's been a great discussion of Adam in the last two episodes, and our discussion on Eve has been awesome. And so thank you for joining us. And we hope you've learned so much. Enjoy this, teach it, and live it. And we wish you the best. Shalom and goodbye, Sam.
