[00:00:00] Speaker A: So, Dawn, I have to tell you about one of my absolute favorite Christian songs that I love listening to. It's by a Christian worship band, and the name of the band is called Passion. And the song is Let It Be Jesus. And I'll tell you when it's nice and the weather's good. I'll roll down my windows, I'll turn it up really loud and I'll drive through the streets on my way home just singing at the top of my lungs, let it be Jesus. And I just want to give you some of the lyrics at the very beginning because it just makes my heart so happy. So these are the lyrics. [00:00:27] Speaker B: It's. [00:00:27] Speaker A: It is Let it be Jesus the first name that I call Let it be Jesus My song inside the storm. Then it goes on. I'll never need another for me to live as Christ. And then she sings. There is a name I will proclaim Let it be Let it be Jesus. [00:00:43] Speaker B: And I love that. [00:00:44] Speaker A: I do, too. [00:00:45] Speaker B: Oh, I love the words. [00:00:46] Speaker A: So awesome. Sometimes I wish our church had bands. One time my daughter found out that her friend's church has drums, and she's like, mom, can we go to that church? It's not a bad idea. I just. I love worship music so much, especially from other faiths, and this one is one of my favorites. But what I love about it is that let it be Jesus Let his name be the song that's in my heart when I'm in the middle of a storm. And it made me think of what we're going to study today in Moses Chapter one. And you're going to talk to us about this idea about the power in the name of Jesus. [00:01:15] Speaker B: Yes. [00:01:15] Speaker A: It's going to be a great discussion. So grab your scriptures and something to mark them with. And we are going to dive into Moses chapter one. Welcome to Jesus Christ in Scripture. Finding Christ on every page. I'm Tammy Usalak hall. This is Dr. Donald W. Perry. And today we are going to dive into some significance behind the power of the name of Jesus Christ. So we are in Moses chapter one. Let's go there, and I'm going to read a couple of verses and you're going to want to mark these. So In Moses chapter one, we're going to start in verse 16 and we're going to go to verse 22. So let's go there, dawn. And will you teach us about this? [00:01:44] Speaker B: Here we go. All right. Yeah, let's read it first. Then I want to point out some things. [00:01:48] Speaker A: Okay, here we go. And background for this scripture is we're still talking about Moses. And Moses is having a conversation with Satan. And we've talked about this before, where Satan tries to trick him by calling him a son of man. [00:01:59] Speaker B: Yes. [00:02:00] Speaker A: And Moses is like, hold on, I'm a son of God, Right? Okay, so here we go. Get thee hence, Satan. Deceive me not. For God said unto me, thou art after the similitude of mine only begotten. And he also gave me commandments when he called unto me out of the burning bush, saying, call upon God in the name of mine only begotten and worship me. And again, Moses said, I will not cease to call upon God. I have other things to inquire of him, for his glory has been upon me. Wherefore I can judge between him and thee. Depart hence, Satan. And now, when Moses had said these words, Satan cried with a loud voice and ranted upon the earth and commanded, saying, I am the only begotten. Worship me. And it came to pass that Moses began to fear exceedingly. And as he began to fear, he saw the bitterness of hell. Nevertheless, calling upon God, he received strength and he commanded, saying, depart from me, Satan. For this one God only will I worship, which is the God of glory. And now Satan began to tremble and the earth shook. And Moses received strength and called upon God, saying, in the name of the only begotten, depart hence, Satan. And it came to pass that Satan cried with a loud voice, with weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. And he departed thence, even from the presence of Moses, that he beheld him not. [00:03:18] Speaker B: Wow, that's a story that's powerful. Thank you for reading it. I love the way you read that. Right now, with so much feeling, I want to point out to our viewers a couple of things. Notice from the same passage, number one, Moses says, get the hints. Satan, deceive me not. Satan's still there. Number two. Depart hence, Satan. Satan's still there. Number three. Depart from me, Satan. Satan's still there. Number four. When Moses uses one of the names of Jesus in the name of the only begotten, depart hence, Satan. Then Satan leaves. [00:04:00] Speaker A: Why is that, Don? [00:04:02] Speaker B: He needed to. That's the power of the name of the Savior. And there are different names that have power. We learned some names in the Temple. We learned names in the Scriptures. We learned names in the Old Testament, the Book of Mormon and the New Testament. Jesus Christ, Jehovah, here only begotten. But let's look at some other passages. In the name of Jesus, Nephi, cast out unclean spirits in my Name. They'll cast out devils in my name. Jesus speaking. They'll do works. They'll cast out devils. They'll heal the sick. But here the theme is casting out devils. And whosoever shall ask it in my name shall. Shall cast out devils. I want to pause and testify of the power of the name of Jesus Christ. So I've got two stories to share. If you share this one, and then I'll share the next one. And I have the text here. [00:04:56] Speaker A: Great. As we possibly Paul, Silas, Timothy or Luke, were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune telling. She followed Paul and us, crying out, these men are servants of the most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation. And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out that very hour. [00:05:26] Speaker B: So this, this is again, I'm emphasizing the name of Jesus to cast out spirits. [00:05:32] Speaker A: Wow. [00:05:32] Speaker B: Yeah. This one has a little perplexity because this slave girl was saying something that is true, right? These men are servants of the most high God. They proclaim the way of salvation. But we don't know if she's using sarcasm or we don't know if she's yelling it. We don't know. But something's wrong. She's possessed. And the important thing is, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ. That's the important thing. Now this next passage. Jesus has power over the devils. When even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils. Many notice this. And he cast out the spirits with his word. He didn't have to say in the name of Jesus Christ, because he is Jesus Christ. Just by his word, he cast them out. What is this? They were amazed. What new doctrine is this? For what authority does he command the unclean spirits? And they obey him. So here's the second story. A father says to Jesus, master, I have brought unto thee my Son, which hath a dumb spirit. And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him. That's the evil spirit. Teareth my Son, and my Son foameth and gnashed with his teeth and pined away. And I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out. And they could not. [00:06:56] Speaker A: And Jesus said, o faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you bring him unto me. And they brought him unto him. And when he saw him straightway, the spirit tare him. And he fell on the ground and wallowed foaming. [00:07:10] Speaker B: What a horrible situation, this poor boy. And the poor father. [00:07:14] Speaker A: And then Jesus says to the Father, how long is it ago since this came unto him? [00:07:19] Speaker B: And the father says, of a child, meaning since he's a child. And ofttimes the Father still speaking it, hath cast him into and into the waters to destroy him. But if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us and help us. [00:07:36] Speaker A: And then Jesus said, if thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. [00:07:41] Speaker B: The Father's crying now. He says, lord, I believe. Help thou my unbelief. [00:07:48] Speaker A: And Jesus says, thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him and enter no more into him. And the spirit cried and rent him sore, and came out of him. And he was as one dead. Insomuch that many said he is dead, Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. [00:08:06] Speaker B: That's. I had several to choose from, several scriptural passages about Jesus casting out devils. This one really touched me. [00:08:14] Speaker A: I'm glad you chose this one. It's one of my absolute favorite stories. Go to Mark 9. Highlight it, Mark it. Because when you get to this part, help thou mind unbelief. I think sometimes, just like going back to that song we started with, when you're in the midst of your storm, it's. It is sometimes hard to believe that you could possibly be saved. And so sometimes just the very thought of calling out his name and having him help you. And I love the beauty of this because he's like, I don't. There's a part of me that doesn't believe. This is going to help me. And Jesus does the miracle, even though he doesn't believe. And I love that. Oh, Don, thanks for choosing that one. [00:08:46] Speaker B: So this is the last slide. I had many scriptures to choose from. There's so many very powerful scriptures. But I wanted to read Jude. Yet Michael the Archangel, when contending with the devil, he disputed about the body of Moses. We don't know all that story. Durst not bring against him a railing accusation. But he said, and this is Michael, notice he says the Lord, he's using a name of the Lord. The Lord rebuke thee. [00:09:16] Speaker A: Why did you choose this verse? [00:09:18] Speaker B: Because I've been studying the Archangel's power and how he's operated through the the millennia at protecting us from Satan. And I've got four accounts I'm going to share with you when we get to Adam and a presentation on Adam. [00:09:35] Speaker A: Okay, that'll be great. Well, I appreciate you teaching us this because those verses, when you have the chance to teach them, go through and mark all the different times. I like that you pointed them out. Four times Satan's asked to leave, and the last time it required the name of Jesus. And so as you teach and as you think about this throughout the week, think of all the times where you've needed to call upon the name of the Lord Jesus, where you've been in the midst of your storms, and he is the only way out. And going back to that song, how we started, and it's my favorite part, that of all the names that I will proclaim, let it be, let it be Jesus. And that is the name that will save us in all of our storms. And we got to see that in these scripture stories, but specifically in Moses's storm, the storm of all storms. And so I love the example that the prophet Moses is to us and how we can then apply it to our lives. So thank you, Don, for teaching that to us. [00:10:21] Speaker B: Thank you. [00:10:22] Speaker A: Enjoy it this week. Have a good one. Shalom and goodbye.
