What if Adam is the archangel who will one day sound the trumpet of the resurrection? Scripture, prophecy, and ancient tradition all point to one stunning truth. This episode will change how you see Adam—and the end of days. In Episode 17 of Jesus Christ in Scripture, Donald W. Parry, PhD and Tamara Uzelac Hall explore one of the most awe-inspiring doctrines in scripture: Adam as Michael the Archangel, the Ancient of Days. With the sound of an ancient shofar (ram’s horn), this episode brings scripture to life as it traces Adam’s eternal identity—from the first man to the chief angel who stands next in authority to Jesus Christ.

[00:00:00] Speaker A: Welcome to Jesus Christ in Finding Christ on Every Page. I'm Tammy Uzalak hall with my friend Dr. Donald W. Perry, and we have a special guest for today's episode, Don, take it away. Who is our guest? [00:00:11] Speaker B: Our guest is Eli Baldwin. He has helped me with two firesides, blowing this shofar. This is a ram's horn. It's called a shofar. This was a gift to me from a Jewish scholar in Michigan. It's a kosher whole horn. It came out of Jerusalem. A shofar was used throughout ancient Israel for different purposes. But the last slide we're going to do today, Sister hall, we're going to talk about Michael the Archangel blowing a trump. I don't know if it'll be a trump like this or not. Blowing a trump to waken the dead at the resurrection. Now, Eli has helped me at a couple of firesides. I can't blow it and make noise come out. So I've invited Eli. Thanks so much for coming. So just blow it a couple times so everyone can hear what. What it sounds like, please. Whoa. Wow. Let me just tell everyone it's impossible. I've tried for months to make this work, and he did it the first time when I handed it to him. You are so talented. Thank you so much for coming, Eli. Thank you. [00:01:28] Speaker A: Thank you. [00:01:29] Speaker B: You're good at it. Good to see you again. [00:01:31] Speaker A: Well, that was cool. [00:01:32] Speaker B: I loved it. [00:01:33] Speaker A: Tell me about this horn. Not many people even know this. [00:01:36] Speaker B: Yeah. When I've taken it to firesides, a lot of people say, what is this? I've never seen this. Oh, I've never heard this before. [00:01:42] Speaker A: I have a question. Throughout the Old Testament, whenever it talks about blowing a trump or a horn, could it be inferring that this is what they would be blowing as a shofar? [00:01:51] Speaker B: Certainly in many passages, especially during the Moses to Moses and beyond period. Right. [00:01:58] Speaker A: So when you get into Leviticus and Deuteronomy and you read about the celebrations with a horn, a blowing of a horn, or a trump, this is it. This is so neat. So grab your scriptures and turn to Moses, chapter one, verse 34. Highlight this verse. This is where we're introduced to Adam. The verse says, and the first man of all men have I called Adam Adam, which is many. We're going to talk about Adam, and we're going to connect it in the end to this shofar. So, Don, teach us about Adam. [00:02:22] Speaker B: All right, so Adam was also Michael. He's the archangel. He's the ancient of days. We'll talk about that. And probably most Importantly, he was a type and shadow of Jesus Christ. So I've taken two groups of Latter Day Saints to Ravenna, Italy, and I've shown them this. This is the color, but this black and white is a little clearer. And this is. You can see his name at the top. And he's dressed as an imperial warrior, as the archangel. He has special robes on. He's standing on a special platform with jewels, and there's a gold background. I mean, it's really special. And notice he's holding a banner on a rod. And three times it says. It's a Greek word, but it says saint. Saint. Saint. Saint. [00:03:11] Speaker A: Oh, that's neat. I wondered what those words meant. Paul wrote that Adam was the figure of him that was to come, a reference to Jesus Christ. Paul named Adam the first Adam and Jesus the last Adam. That is interesting. Both Adam and Jesus had vital roles in the plan of salvation. Adam caused the fall. Jesus brought about the atonement. Adam brought forth physical death. Jesus gave us the resurrection. For since by man Adam came death, by man Christ came also the resurrection of the dead. For is in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. [00:03:42] Speaker B: Pretty cool parallels. [00:03:44] Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. I've never considered those before. [00:03:46] Speaker B: I love it, and I love what Paul wrote about it. [00:03:48] Speaker A: That will be fun when we get to New Testament to really dive into those. [00:03:51] Speaker B: Yes. Now, Michael is huge in the Dead Sea Scrolls. [00:03:54] Speaker A: Oh, okay. I did not know that. [00:03:55] Speaker B: Yeah. And I've just got one part of one scroll here. It's in Hebrew. You read it this way. This is the Hebrew transcript. Actually, I said it's in Hebrew. It's actually in Aramaic. And I just glanced here, and some of them are in Hebrew. And this one starts out the words of the book that Michael said to the angels. So he's the archangel. So here's a book. It has a lot of holes in it. It's fragmented. So that's not the point of the presentation today, but I just wanted to point out that the words of Michael is one of the Dead Sea Scrolls. [00:04:29] Speaker A: Is this his name in Hebrew? I'm just curious. Is that it? [00:04:32] Speaker B: Yes. Yes, Michael, that's it. Good one. [00:04:34] Speaker A: Hey, guess who's been studying Hebrew? [00:04:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:36] Speaker A: Can I just insert really quick? By the way, Don Perry teaches an online Hebrew class, if anyone. I hope you open this to everybody, but if you are thinking, I really want to learn Hebrew, you can. This is so exciting. He has a course that he teaches online, and you just have to buy the books. And I am taking this course right now and it is just advancing my knowledge. I mean, the fact that I could even find Michael is amazing. I mean, I'm looking at some of the words. I'm like, I know the word Amar. [00:04:59] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:59] Speaker A: Ah, this is so fun. [00:05:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:01] Speaker A: In fact, Don, grab your book. Don doesn't know I was going to do this, but I'm just going to do it anyway. This is, he wrote this. This is the book that you're going to want to get to study Hebrew. And listen, guys, this is a very big deal because the books that I have studied from. There's a book called Lambden, which is one of the oldest books that's been written to study from. And this is interactive. Like, I love what you've done with Hebrew. It's Lambda's very scholarly and this is scholarly, but it's approachable. We're going to leave information on the page. Like we'll put a link that you can go to so you can sign up for this class. But 10 out of 10, highly recommend. You did an awesome job. [00:05:34] Speaker B: Thank you. [00:05:34] Speaker A: How many years did it take you? [00:05:36] Speaker B: Oh, that was seven years in the making. And I co authored it with Jerry Clements, a friend and associate. Yes. So, yeah, and her name's on the book. [00:05:44] Speaker A: Great. [00:05:45] Speaker B: I just, I just loved it. It came out. I love the formatters and the artist did such a good job on it. [00:05:51] Speaker A: Yeah, I love it. It's. And I love how it's like easier and faster. Sign me up. I'm all about that. [00:05:55] Speaker B: That was kind of you. Thank you. [00:05:57] Speaker A: And the class is cool because it. Well, the first course, the first class you took was every Wednesday at noon. And there were. People were like, I can't be there at noon. So you recorded it. So now you can watch it. Free. It's free to watch. You just have to. And you want to buy these books and sign up for the course online. So we'll give you all that information. But it's very, very cool. [00:06:13] Speaker B: Thank you so much. [00:06:14] Speaker A: Sideline on that. They were the two most beautiful and perfect specimens of mankind I ever saw. Adam was a large, broad shouldered man and Eve was a woman, was as large in proportion. And we read that in our very first segment about Eve. [00:06:27] Speaker B: Yes. [00:06:27] Speaker A: As I, Daniel looked, thrones were placed and the ancient of days, Michael took his seat. His clothing was white as snow and the hair of his head was like pure wool. His throne was fiery flames, its wheels were burning fire. A stream of fire issued and came out from before him. [00:06:44] Speaker B: It's an image of great power. And he's the archangel. When we say archangel, we mean it's the chief or principal or preeminent arch is also found in patriarch, an archetype, an archbishop, an archenemy. So it's kind of the top or the chief angel. And that's who Michael was. He's the chief angel. And Joseph Smith said this angels are under the direction of Michael or Adam. [00:07:11] Speaker A: So Michael stands next in authority to Jesus Christ himself and presides over the spirits of all men. The priesthood was first given to Adam. He obtained the first presidency. He is Michael the Archangel, spoken of in the scriptures. Then to Noah, who is Gabriel. He stands next in authority to Adam in the line of priesthood. [00:07:28] Speaker B: This statement just opened up so many scriptures. [00:07:31] Speaker A: It did. My brain is like, wow. [00:07:35] Speaker B: Michael is also the Ancient of Days, which means he's a really old guy, right? I mean, it's a fancy term. Ancient of Days. What does that mean? So Daniel said, as I looked, he's having a vision. Thrones were placed, and this is Adam on diamond. And the Ancient of Days took his seat. I saw in the night visions. And behold, with the clouds of heaven, there came one like a Son of Man. And he came to the Ancient of Days. And then in doctrine and covenants 27, it says Michael or Adam. Now, notice all these names and titles. Michael, Adam, the father of all, the Prince of all, the Ancient of Days. [00:08:11] Speaker A: Okay. Michael's last responsibilities at Adam on diamond. Number one, Adam will call his children together and hold a council with them to prepare them for the coming of the Son of Man. Number two, as I, Daniel, looked, thrones were placed in the Ancient of Days. Michael took his seat. And we're going to take a little closer look at Adam and Yamun. And we get to Daniel 7, which is a great place. We've both been there. That'll be fun to talk about. [00:08:31] Speaker B: Yeah. Notice this. Just some more truths about who Michael is. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice. Voice of the Archangel, and with the trump of God. And the dead in Christ shall rise first. And then in section 29, it says, but behold, verily I say unto you, before the earth shall pass away, Michael, mine archangel, shall sound his trump. Now, this is why I invited Eli to come, so people could hear the. At least the shofar trump. [00:09:02] Speaker A: Yes. [00:09:03] Speaker B: I don't know if Michael will have a modern brass trump. I don't think so. But who knows what his trump will look like. And then shall all the dead awake. So he's going to blow it. And the dead will awake and their graves will be opened and they'll come forth even all. I found this really interesting quote in the encyclopedia of Joseph Smith's teachings. Adam will conduct people to God's throne. Joseph Smith saw. Saw Adam open the gate of the celestial city. Michael has all these important roles. He's still busy and admit the people one by one. He then saw Father Adam conduct them to the throne one by one when they were crowned kings and priests of God. [00:09:47] Speaker A: What do you think? This is interesting when you have right here this one by one. Because in my mind I'm just imagining a flood, a crowd of people. But there's something intimate about that. One by one. [00:09:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Very individual. It's not like everyone come to the throne. It's like we're going to personalize this. Tammy, your turn. Walk with me to the throne. Let's make it special for Tammy Hall. [00:10:11] Speaker A: Now that means so much more to me. I think that that is a beautiful way to end this part one discussion of Adam. This idea of one by one and how exciting that will be to be able to see Adam, the archangel Michael, the ancient of days. All these cool titles. [00:10:24] Speaker B: Yes. [00:10:25] Speaker A: So this is part one. And in the next part, we're going to give you more cool information about Adam. Sam.
